How to Romanticise Your Evenings in Malaysia's Humid Weather

After living in Melbourne, Australia for 10 years, and just moved back to Malaysia temporarily. I feel so grateful for our constant warm temperatures. Living in a country with four seasons meant we had more cold days than hot days 😭 and I would always have to either turn on the heater, or wrap and bundle myself under the blanket and it would get so tiring! My skin was always so dry and I felt like I aged faster.

Evenings in Malaysia can feel thick, warm, and a little sticky. The kind of air that slows you down. But maybe that’s the point. Instead of fighting the humidity, I've learnt to just appreciate the tropical weather.

Here’s how I like to make even the stickiest evenings feel magical ✨

🕯️ 1. Dim the Lights, Glow Instead

Girlie! Turn off those harsh ceiling lights!! they make humid nights feel even heavier. I love switching on all my warm lamps instead. Soft, golden light instantly changes the mood, making the room feel calm. And if you have fairy lights, even better! Sit back and relax, and feel the lights breathing

Try: Lighting a candle with a scent that matches the weather: like jasmine, lemongrass, sandalwood, or white tea.

🍵 2. Make a Cold Evening Ritual Drink

When I was living in Melbourne, my evening ritual drink to battle the cold was a hot cup of tea! (with a sneaky dessert). The trick here is to romanticise hydration 😌 Pour yourself something that feels intentional. In Malaysia, since it's hot, I have been trying different drinks lately. Iced green tea, Iced Matcha latte, or even our famous Teh O Ais Limau!

Try: Adding a slice of fruit or kuih, a metal straw, and girlie you will start pretending you’re in a summer café in Seoul

🌧️ 3. Let the Sound of the Rain In

Malaysia are full of background music, the crickets, the occasional vroom vroom distant traffic, fireworks and sometimes you also hear the hum of rain. Open a window or balcony door and let that ambient soundtrack mix with your playlist.

Try: Adding soft lo-fi mix, R&B, or slow jazz to accompany the rain sounds. Let the air feel fresh and soft!!

🩵 4. Freshen Up Before You Wind Down

If it rains before you go to sleep, even better!! Take that shower just before your evening skincare routine. It’s the best way to wash away the day’s humidity. After showering, don't forget to moisturise, maybe use a mask, and wear your comfiest cotton clothes. The moment you step out, it’ll feel like a fresh start.

Try: Put your skincare in the fridge for a mini spa moment.

🌷 5. Romanticise Doing Nothing

Ok la, when it rains. You don’t have to do anything grand. Just sit still and relax. Sip your ritual drink and stare at the ceiling fan. Let your thoughts wander. Maybe you can even journal, with the music in the back. I normally love to start blogging and journaling when I'm indoors and it's raining outside. Maybe you scroll through Pinterest and you'll find inspiration of your next idea!

✨ 6. Add a Tiny Spark of Joy

Glam up your life!! Light incense in the house, buy room spray, or even put on a nice youtube instrumental music with a cute background while you do chores in the house. There are so many ways to make life cute. These are some of the Youtube instrumental songs I like to put on the TV.

Try these!

Humidity can be annoying, yes, but it’s also part of what makes Malaysia feel alive, warm, and tender.
